“The difference between good and great is just a little extra effort”– Clarence “Biggie” Munn, MSU Football Coach

With another semester underway, we can’t help but reflect on how far we’ve come. MSU IT is now comprised of an integrated IT team that built and maintains one of the most advanced university data centers in the country. After facing the challenges of these great transformations, it’s time to start the hard work of defining who we are and what this will mean for us going forward.

With integration, we can now improve specialization. On an individual level this means #TeamMSUIT members can dig deeply into their roles and increase innovation and flexibility. It also means exciting new career pathways for them.

The benefits to the university are multilayered, including reduced fragmentation. This will lead to less duplication of effort. It will also allow us to see the benefits and efficiencies of economies of scale in software licensing and infrastructure.

For the students, faculty and staff that we serve, this means that we can see their full range of IT needs. Rather than utilizing IT services locally and others globally, the entire portfolio of services is in one place. This will allow greater flexibility and understanding of each user and their total needs.

The first steps are already underway as we begin evaluating our systems and increasing our collaborative efforts. More is to come, and I look forward to the new possibilities and challenges that await us this year.

Thank you for reading and for your dedication in 2018. Go green!
